Photo credit: The shell was the symbol of medieval pilgrims as they made their way across Europe. A favorite destination was Santiago de Compostella in northwest Spain (my blog on the topic). There is growing interest in reviving the old pilgrim roads in Europe and the spiritual journey they represent.
