I created a map giving the GPS
coordinates and directions to St. Leo Abbey where my
wife and I are Benedictine
oblates (we do not live there,
but interestingly because it is so unusual, one oblate
does live at St. Leo Abbey by very kind and special
permission).
Founded
in 1889, this Catholic Benedictine Abbey follows the
Rule of
St. Benedict.
Following the requirements in
Chapter 53 of the Rule, all visitors to St. Leo
Abbey are welcomed as Christ and
the abbey has an active spiritual retreat program. Come
by yourself or with a group. Visitors and retreat
guests may be of any faith or any denomination, you are
not required to be Catholic.
St. Leo Abbey's bookstore is well
stocked with monastic and Catholic books. If you go and
want to browse the bookstore, call ahead to make sure it
is open (352) 588-2606.
The abbey also has an oblate program
for lay people wanting to live a more monastic life.
